Where Is Fortnite’s ‘Wonder Woman 1984’ Skin?

In just two days on Christmas, Warner Bros. will set precedent by releasing Wonder Woman 1984 not only in theaters, but also on demand on HBO Max, due to the fact that…the pandemic means most people still aren’t going to theaters.

These days, however, you are not really a superhero movie unless you are also running a Fortnite ad campaign, and given that roughly two dozen superhero skins, both Marvel and DC, have made their way into Fortnite the past few seasons, I find myself wondering where Wonder Woman is, and why she hasn’t made an appearance in the game.

DC already boasts a number of skins in the game. There’s Batman, Aquaman, Catwoman, Harley Quinn, Poison Ivy, Joker and now Arrow’s Oliver Queen is about to show up in the game imminently as a “hunter” for this season.

Marvel? I mean where to even start. Black Widow, Star Lord, Wolverine, She-Hulk, Black Panther, Captain Marvel, Venom, Ghost Rider, Taskmaster, Deadpool, Thor, Iron Man, Captain America, Storm, Groot, Daredevil, Dr. Doom, Blade and I’m sure I’m forgetting a few more.

So why not Wonder Woman, and/or Cheetah? Their omission seems strange given how many superheroes have been jammed into Fortnite the past few months, and how you could easily classify either of them as “hunters” for the sake of the theme of this season. It seems like a missed cross-promotional opportunity, and I do wonder why it didn’t work out, as it was no doubt suggested by one party or the other.

But just because there’s no Wonder Woman now, doesn’t mean there will never be. DC has had fewer skins overall, and is still missing some big icons like Superman, Green Lantern, Flash and some other JLA members. In contrast, Marvel has so many heroes in the game now it’s been impossible to line them up with actual move or show releases. We have two different Black Widow skins now but the movie got delayed. I will probably expect Falcon, Winter Soldier, Vision and Scarlet Witch skins when those Disney Plus shows come out.

Wonder Woman did seem like a pretty obvious choice here, so it’s unclear what happened to her and Cheetah, and if the marketing budget just didn’t allow for a Fortnite crossover. Nothing has even been datamined about these two for the future, so if they did arrive, it would have to be probably a month at least for them to show up, well after the movie has premiered. Instead, we’re getting the launch of Marvel heroes like Captain Marvel and Black Panther, or DC’s Green Arrow based on a show that has been off the air for a year. It’s just sort of weird. Anyway, we’ll see what happens.
