There’s a lot to look forward to in the near future for Fortnite gamers as a Doomsday event is set to take place before the start of season 3. However, while this is very exciting, there’s unfortunately a lack of in-person competitions and tournaments despite some people still asking when the World Cup 2020 is scheduled for. As for why there isn’t any news about in-person tournaments happening, it’s because they’ve all been cancelled by Epic Games.
Fortnite is one of the biggest and most popular games of all time and it’ll be available as a PS5 and Xbox Series X launch title come the Holidays. In addition to being available on next-gen platforms, the Battle Royale title will also switch to Unreal Engine 5 in 2021 and – fingers crossed – physical events will also return in the same year.
Despite Epic Games having announced awhile back that there are no physical tourneys taking place this year, some people continue to ask when the World Cup 2020 is scheduled to begin. So, for those who keep probing, below you’ll discover why it is cancelled.
When is the Fortnite World Cup 2020?
The Fortnite World Cup 2020 probably would have commenced in July similar to the 2019 tournament.
However, there is no date for when the Fortnite World Cup 2020 event will take place as it’s been cancelled by Epic Games.
Although you can probably already guess why it’s been null and voided for this year, the official reason is because of the coronavirus outbreak.
Yes, the same reason as for why everything else has been scrapped from music gigs to theatrical releases and why it’s impossible to do anything fun this year.
When is the next Fortnite World Cup?
Epic Games’ current plan for the next Fortnite World Cup is for it to take place in 2021.
If it’s possible to have any fun next year by actually mingling and going out to events, then the next Fortnite World Cup could take place in July of next year.
However, as of writing this is only hopeful thinking from both Epic Games and the Battle Royale community as no one knows what’s going to happen.
We’re all obviously praying for events such as concerts and other public gatherings to return as early as possible, but with how things are there’s no guarantees for this year or even next.
