This morning, the fast food chain tweeted two emojis, a cactus and a cheeseburger, (the cactus serving as a nod to Travis Scott’s alter-ego, Cactus Jack) sending fans into a frenzy. Shortly after, the partnership was confirmed — recording artist Travis Scott and McDonald’s indeed have a collaboration coming down the pipe, and today we got a sneak peek of what we can expect from this unusual partnership starting next week.
So, what do you get when you fuse a hip hop sensation and the Golden Arches? McDonald’s is calling this a multi-level innovative partnership that officially kicks off September 8 through October 4. What we do know, thanks to the artist’s tease on Twitter, is that he will score his own menu item – the “Travis Scott Meal” — which includes all of his favorite things: the beef Quarter Pounder with cheese, bacon, and lettuce; medium World Famous Fries with BBQ sauce to dip, and a Sprite. You can eat just like Travis for $6.
The only celebrity name to have made a cameo on the McDonald’s menu before Scott is the legendary Michael Jordan back in 1992, whose addition was dubbed the “McLean Deluxe” and supported by an iconic commercial with Jumpman himself and Larry Bird.
The “SICKO MODE” artist continues to transcend the realm of music, and his partnership with McDonald’s is just another unorthodox way of flexing his success and influence. Most recently, an avatar of Travis Scott performed and dropped a new track via the battle-royale video game, Fortnite, which drew over 12 million people. It’s no wonder he’s often referenced as the “king of the youth”.
In terms of other partnership elements, Cactus Jack also designed custom apparel for the McDonald’s crew to wear during the promotion, and charitable efforts will be introduced in communities across America. Of course, as modern collabs go, we can expect additional surprises along the way.
