This is all the latest information on Bethesda’s prospective The Elder Scrolls VI game, including when we can expect it to release, any gameplay and story details, and more.
The popularity of The Elder Scrolls: Oblivion and Skyrim helped the Elder Scrolls name to skyrocket and become, arguably, the role-playing series in the industry.
Earlier games such as Morrowind were already excelling in creating incredibly detailed open-world adventures for players to lose hours to. However, it’s the two recent entries that took the series from revered but niche RPG to mainstream success.
Fans now look towards the future with the sixth official game in the series currently in development, and here’s what we know about it so far.
When does The Elder Scrolls VI release?
It was back at E2 2018 when we finally received official confirmation that the much-anticipated game was in development. Aside from ongoing content being pumped out for The Elder Scrolls: Online, the last fully-fledged Elder Scrolls was The Elder Scrolls: Skyrim that first came out in 2011.
It has since been re-released multiple times, across different consoles – much to the resignation of Elder Scrolls fans hoping for a new game.
Since The Elder Scrolls VI was first teased by Bethesda, there has been no official date as to when we can expect the game.
If the scoop of one game reporter is to be believed, then it’s possible that we may not see the game until 2026 at the earliest.
Despite Bethesda’s size and stature, they are currently working on multiple projects at the moment such as a new Indiana Jones game, the almost mythical Starfield, Elder Scrolls: Online content, and more. Given some of the problems that Bethesda faced regarding their last big RPG title – Fallout 76 – they may be doing their utmost to ensure the game is as perfect as can be.
Here is the official announcement trailer for the game:
Which platforms will The Elder Scrolls 6 be on?
In a truly stunning turn of events, Microsoft announced in September 2020 that they had acquired Bethesda in an eye-watering $7.5 billion deal.
The announcement sent shockwaves throughout the gaming world, leading many to question the future of forthcoming Bethesda developed and published video games.
In an interview with Games Industry, Bethesda Director and Executive ProducerTodd Howard discussed the availability of The Elder Scrolls VI. When asked about it only being exclusive to the Xbox systems, he commented that it would be “hard to imagine.”
The details of Microsoft’s partnership with Bethesda are still quite vague, and it hasn’t been made clear which games will be Xbox exclusives, which will be timed-exclusives, and which will receive general releases.
TES6 gameplay and story details
Right now, we don’t really know anything about the gameplay or story outside of what’s been seen in the announcement trailer.
At the 2020 Develop: Brighton conference, Todd Howard sat down to discuss what was going on with Bethesda and provided some new updates on their game engine and how it would affect The Elder Scrolls VI.
In relation to the updated game engine, he said, “It’s taken us longer than we would have liked, but it’s going to power everything we’re doing with Starfield and Elder Scrolls 6. When people see the results, they’ll hopefully be as happy as we are with what’s on the screen and also how we can go about making our games.”
Some of Bethesda’s open-world games have taken a bit of criticism for perhaps not delivering the visuals and performance that other similar games had been producing.
We assume that The Elder Scrolls will still largely follow in the footsteps of previous games in the series by providing a core-RPG experience. Focusing on intricate customization and character building in a vast world filled with daring side quests and a juicy main story.
Understandably, everything is a bit obscure regarding The Elder Scrolls VI details are obviously being very secretive and protective of its details.
As concrete information begins to filter through, we’ll be sure to update this page with crucial information regarding The Elder Scrolls VI.
