Fortnite’s current season is called Primal, so it’s no surprise that dinosaurs have begun hatching on the island. The new Raptors appeared as part of the game’s big update Tuesday morning.
The Raptors can be hunted and tamed and will feature into future challenges throughout the season.
Other highlights of this morning’s update include a major boost to the game’s performance on Nintendo Switch:
“Beginning March 30, 2021, we’re releasing an update to enhance our player experience for the Nintendo Switch. Specifically, we’re upgrading the renderer on the Nintendo Switch to make better use of the console’s GPU.
“So what does this mean for Switch players? The update provides significantly improved resolution both in handheld and docked modes, resulting in images that are less blurry, without loss of performance. The update also provides a more consistent framerate, with fewer hitches, resulting in a smoother experience overall.
“Fortnite on Switch will still use dynamic resolution when needed to ensure a consistent framerate, but this will occur less frequently, and overall resolution will be significantly higher.”
The resolution bumps the handheld Switch from 1000×500 to 1170×660. Docked Switch resolution increases from 1390/x780 to 1560×880. These are still quite a bit lower than other platforms but it’s still a nice boost.

It’s definitely a noticeable improvement. Epic also notes that the game will be a whopping 140MB smaller on Switch now. Every little bit counts I suppose.
Epic released actual patch notes for Creative Mode which you can read right here.
For Battle Royale some annoying bugs have been fixed, including the Anomaly at Shark Island bug that has made it impossible for me to complete that challenge.
- The anomaly at Shark Island may not appear for some players.
- Extremely decreased visibility when in the storm.
- Opening inventory will cancel actions including reviving, searching, or any other kind of interaction.
- Missing legacies from season 5 chapter 2.
- Ready up issue on players using split screen.
Epic has also noted that it will be reducing the fire rate of the Primal Shotgun and making other adjustments to the Makeshift Shotgun though what those may be remain a mystery since Epic no longer releases detailed patch notes.
Beyond this, Epic revealed the Spring Breakout event that also kicks off today with special challenges launching later this week and a fun reward, the Tactical Quaxes Pickaxe.
