Fortnite Chapter 2 Season is drawing to a close, and we head towards Fortnite Season 5.
Season 5 will likely be holiday themed due to the season beginning on December 3rd.
The last time we got a holiday season was Season 7 which saw the snow biome added to the map.
Winterfest 2020 will be taking place again this year so we can expect many Christmas themed things added to the game next season.
Speaking of the map, let’s take a closer look at what we can expect for the new season!
Every new Fortnite season implements some sort of map changes; although this past season had minor ones.
With the reveal by Donald Mustard’s brother, on the ITalkFortnite podcast, that the new Chapter 2 map is actually the original Chapter 1 map but altered when it got sucked into the black hole, could this mean the original map, or at least a version of it, will return in the future?
Hear what he has to say at 2:04:00, the embedded video is timestamped.
Galactus is the Devourer of Worlds and he is fast approaching Fortnite.
Could Galactus devour the Chapter 2 map and bring a new map after only 4 seasons?
The topic of the old Fortnite map is a rather sensitive one to some players, including myself.
Since the beginning of Chapter 2 players has been begging to go back to the old map; as it appears the current one has lost its touch.
Donald Mustard’s brother has stated that the old map can’t return due to the changes that had to be made to the engine and mechanics to allow for swimming etc.
It seems the entire map would have to be rebuilt from the ground up and while it would be great to see it return, it may also lose its charm if it has to be rebuilt.
Or there is a chance we have our nostalgia glasses on and the map isn’t as good as we remember it.
For part of 2018 and most of 2019 many players complained about the old map, even getting the point of begging Epic for a new one.
So maybe we just need to move on?
If Epic was to bring back the old Fortnite map, we could see them implementing some sort of game mode or split season similar to Apex Legends.
Where players are able to choose which map they play for a limited time, or they even split the season up between the two maps.
A Hybrid Map?
One possibility is that we will see a hybrid map, blending both Chapters together.
With it being confirmed that the Chapter 2 map is in fact the Chapter 1 map, that means it is possible that Chapter 1 locations could come to Chapter 2.
After Galactus, the Devourer of Worlds, does his damage to the world of Fortnite, could we see some locations replaced by original locations from the first map?
It is possible POIs such as Tilted Towers could come back and replace Lazy Lake.
Or they could get rid of unpopular and irrelevant POIs such as Catty Corner and The Fortilla.
Season 5 Map Changes
It is hard to say what route Epic is going to take with Season 5.
The current season has seen an implementation of multiple Marvel POIs all over the map.
Stark Industries and Dooms Domain have become the go to landing spots this season.
It is very likely that these POIs will disappear at the end of the season, or at least change into something else.
Doom’s Domain will likely go back to being Pleasant Park, while another POI might take the place of Stark Industries.
Stark Industries took the place of Frenzy Farm and it would be great to see that POI come back, although Heart Lake is a fantastic and underrated area, so I kind of want to see it stay.
As of now, we do not have any leaks or rumors to go off of for the new season.
However, in the coming weeks we can expect a flurry of leaks to come as the season start date nears.
If we were to pinpoint one or two locations that could experience some changes next season, we would have to look at the following:
- Lazy Lake
- Catty Corner
- Salty Spring
Lazy Lake and Salty Springs in particular have not experienced any significant changes since the release of Chapter 2.
Be on the lookout for some major changes this upcoming season!
