Leak points to new “Dragon” shotgun coming to Fortnite Season 3

On its surface, Fortnite is nothing more than a cartoony Battle Royale game that sets itself apart from other titles with the elements of building and editing. That’s enough for some players, but digging deeper reveals one of the most complex and intricate plot lines in all of gaming.

Fans have spent hours deciphering hints, clues, loading screens, and everything in between to figure out exactly what’s going on. We have a rough idea of what happened in Chapter 1, but Chapter 2 shook things up even more.

Everything that we thought we knew about the Fortnite plot was flipped on its head during the Device Event. We ascended into another plane of existence where we met John Jones – a member of the organization that is, presumably, running Fortnite Battle Royale as a simulation.

We still have far more questions than answers – questions that we probably won’t see fully resolved until Chapter 2 Season 10. YouTuber TheSmithPlays created a 30-minute explanation of the entire Fortnite Chapter 2 story. It fills in many of the gaps in the story and hypothesizes about certain characters’ motivations.

We strongly recommend that any fans of the Fortnite plotline watch this entire video, as well as the first part that TheSmithPlays made. It might not be 100% correct, but it’s as close as you’ll get to the complete Fortnite story, so far.

Fortnite Chapter 2 is a story of a new land with factions vying for control. Under the surface, however, we have a self-aware AI in Midas (and possibly Chaos Agent) trying to break out of what he recognizes as a simulation. Learning this makes the first scene of the Season 3 trailer a whole lot more tragic. After his attempt at breaking the simulation fails, he’s left stranded on a raft before being eaten by a shark.

The biggest conclusion that his video draws is the puppetmasters behind the presumed simulation: the characters from Save the World. According to TheSmithPlays’ theory, Battle Royale is a simulation from Vindertech Labs that takes place before the events of Save the World.

We don’t know whether or not this theory is correct, but there’s a lot of circumstantial evidence to back it up. Either way, it’s probably the best explanation for John Jones that you’ll see – at least, right now.

Part of the brilliance of the Fortnite plot is that it’s open to interpretation. One day, we may see an Epic Games developer break down their intentions of the entire plot, but that day is likely far in the future. For now, this video serves as the graduate-level course on Fortnite Chapter 2’s story. We’re excited to see what happens next.
