‘Fortnite’ Week 9 Challenges Leaked Online

This week’s new batch of Fortnite challenges have leaked online.

Chapter 2, Season 3 is almost over—at least in theory—with just two more weeks of regular seasonal challenges remaining. This Thursday we’ll dive into Week 9 challenges, and next week rounds everything off with Week 10.

It all feels . . . a little anticlimactic I suppose. For one thing, Aquaman was a huge, monumental letdown (much like the film!) Frankly, I miss secret skins—and more creative skins that aren’t just DC or Marvel superheroes.

At least last season’s Deadpool was interesting. There were fun challenges, a bit of mystery and humor, and you didn’t unlock Deadpool or his alt-skins until much later in the season. But even still, it was pretty easy (though not as easy as Aquaman) and because of that, and because there really was no question about Deadpool being the skin, there was no real sense of surprise or achievement when you got the skin.

That’s even worse with Aquaman. You don’t have to complete seven or eight weeks of challenges to unlock the Aquaman skin. You barely need to try at all. So much for a special bonus to the most avid players. It really makes the game feel less engaging than it did in the first chapter when we actually had to work to get the special skin. I still think the Prisoner was probably the game’s best, especially since you had to solve special challenges to unlock his different looks.

This season overall has been a huge step back compared to last season, at least in terms of fun challenges and a fun overall theme. I do like the new locations and I’m glad they had some fun flooding, and then draining, the map. Cars are an added bonus as well. But man these challenges are a snoozefest.

Week 9’s challenges are all super easy and uninteresting according to the leaked challenge list:

The challenges are:

  • Search 7 chests at Pleasant Park
  • Get 3 Eliminations at The Fortilla
  • Gas up a Vehicle at Catty Corner
  • Stoke 3 Campfires at Camp Cod
  • Collect 200 Metal at Hydro 16
  • Eliminate 7 Henchman or Marauders
  • Eliminate 70 Henchman or Marauders (team challenge)
  • Search 7 Ammo Boxes at Misty Meadows

Whether or not all these remain the same or are changed in the final release, they’re all pretty boring. I suppose gassing up a vehicle at Catty Corner is the most interesting, simply because gassing up vehicles in general is such a new thing for Fortnite. But beyond that? Eliminations, chests and ammo boxes. Yawn.

These challenges go live this coming Thursday at 9 am ET.
