We’ve got another update here in Fortnite, one of the last we’ll see this season but perhaps not actually the last one. The Agency is getting ready to explode, or to explode something else, or to do whatever wacky sort of destruction we’re going to get in the season-ending event, but not quite yet. The v12.60 update isn’t a huge one, but there are some notes to be had regardless, so let’s jump in.
The headlining addition is the new Infiltration mode in Spy Games, a capture-the-flag sort of thing where you need to extract or defend intel cases from the opposing team. The trick is that the intel cases contain tech that you can use to gain an edge, either in infiltration mode itself or in any of the other operations. A shield bubble with low gravity inside is particularly interesting.
Other than that, not a huge amount of stuff. The grappler and jetpack are making their way to Party Royale for more high-mobility hijinks, and there’s a new iOS feature that enabled dynamic resolution to help make sure you’re up at your targeted framerate.
Aim assist isn’t being changed this week, but Epic did provide an update on this controversial feature. There are adjustments coming to controllers on the PC version next week, so the competitive community will be looking out for that one with bated breath. It’s part of the constant push and pull between Fortnite as high-skill competitive game and Fortnite as wacky, hanging out sort of game, so expect more tweaks after that.
Other than that, we’re getting ready for something big at the end of the season. There’s reason to expect it’s going to be a flood of some kind, with a water theme for next season that should augment boat gameplay with all sorts of new aquatic options. But that’s then, and this is now. Finish up those challenges, unlock those skins and get ready for the event.
