With the revival of Fortnite and the release of CoD: Warzone, Apex Legends has been lost in the shuffle of popular BR games. That doesn’t mean that the game isn’t fantastic and wildly popular – it’s just not the new trend that it once was.
There was a time when Apex was dubbed “the Fortnite killer.” It failed at that and showed that there’s probably nothing that can kill Fortnite other than Fortnite, itself.
The release of Apex Legends had a profound effect on Fortnite. They brought players back with a free Battle Pass and siphon, which was removed a month later when Epic cited “unhealthy aggression.”
Apex Legends’ biggest impact on Fortnite – and the battle royale genre – was the idea of reviving dead teammates. Nearly all BRs introduced this feature after the release of Apex Legends, including Fortnite.
Now, Fortnite players are asking for Epic’s sticky fingers, yet again, when Respawn announced a new feature coming to Apex Legends: reconnection after disconnection.
Disconnecting from a match – especially in competitive – is completely demoralizing. Your game is over and your teammates have to go on without you. Now, in Apex Legends, you have a chance to get back into the fight if you disconnect.
There will be a timer that will allow you to return to the match after lagging out. Your character will remain in their current state until you come back or until the timer runs out – at which point, you’ll be removed from the match.
There’s a post on the r/FortniteCompetitive subreddit, calling for Epic to implement a system, with 2.2k upvotes at the time of writing. This would be a fantastic system for competitive Fortnite, especially when disconnects are so frequent.
Nearly every tournament comes with a handful of pros losing a game or two to connection issues. Without these, complaints would be much lower.
We don’t know how difficult it is to add something like this, but it’s probably a possibility for Fortnite. Epic appear to be listening to the community of late, so it’s no better time to shout this from the hilltops. Let us reconnect!
